Overseas Pakistanis Sent a Record $41.6 Billion Home in FY26

Workers' remittances to Pakistan hit a record $41.6 billion for fiscal year 2025-26, the State Bank of Pakistan reported, with June alone bringing in $3.5 billion from overseas Pakistanis.

Where the money came from

As reported by Dawn and Business Recorder, the top corridors for June 2026 were Saudi Arabia ($829.6 million), the United Arab Emirates ($792.2 million), the United Kingdom ($514.9 million) and the United States ($296.8 million). The full-year total marked 8.6% growth over FY25's $38.3 billion, continuing a multi-year recovery in formal remittance flows that officials credit partly to a narrower gap between the interbank and open-market exchange rates, which makes banking channels more attractive than informal hawala transfers.

Why this matters beyond the headline number

Remittances are Pakistan's single largest source of foreign exchange, larger than exports of many sectors combined, and directly support millions of households. If you are sending or receiving money from family abroad, comparing what different banks and apps actually charge — and what exchange rate they quote versus the interbank rate — makes a real difference to how much lands in the recipient's account.
